![]() The panels will detach after a few hits, and unlike Tombstone, whose top panel comes off with any level of force, and Witch-Doctor’s top which I found extremely difficult to remove, here none of the panels are really more difficult to remove than another. So dust off the BattleBots Arena, t he wait is over, and you can now have a four-way robot rumble with Beta & Minotaur, Tombstone & Witch-Doctor!īeta & Minotaur are just as fast as the other two, for the best results and to reduce input lag, I’d advise standing up with the controllers above the arena, and try to keep the infrared sensor pointing at your robot. The robots can be battled on any hard surface, but let’s be honest if you live in the UK and you purchased this set, you mostly did it to take advantage of the four-player capabilities of these bots. The controllers are the same tiny little devices as provided with Tombstone & Witch-Doctorand the rest of Hexbug’s toys.Ī lot of care and thought has gone into the design and build of these little robots, and once again, batteries are included.įor details on how to pair the robots with the controllers, see my review of the BattleBots arena. The only issue I found was sometimes the robots got mixed up or two got paired with the same controller, I’ve heard this is due to the robots pairing to the closest controllers, and admittedly this happened after one robot had a period of inactivity and was quickly resolved by resetting the bots. The robots themselves are brilliantly detailed, and you can still see the circuitry underneath the armour, and I like how they’ve incorporated the battery houses to make them look as if they’re part of the robots, particularly with Beta, where they resemble CO2 canisters. I’ve tested it and it works.Īs with Tombstone & Witch-Doctor, the robots are fitted with side and top panels, held on with clips and magnets, detaching after heavier hits. The hammer can also be used as a shield to stop opponents getting to the front panel.ĮDIT: I was told Beta’s hammer IS powerful enough to right the robot if it’s in the ‘down’ position. It is nice to have a weapon which isn’t a spinner and makes it easier to detach the top panels on the other robots. So without further ado, let’s get to the bots themselves: The Robots:īoth Beta & Minotaur featured in the rebooted BattleBots’ Season 2 Minotaur features a drum-spinner weapon, which is so powerful it actually vibrates the robot around when at full speed! It also features a small blue light just behind the spinner, so you know when it’s turned on.īeta features a hammer, which fires extremely fast, and is also retractable, although sadly it wasn’t powerful enough to self-right the robot when I attempted it. (At the time of writing, they are still available on Hexbug’s website)Īlso, instead of arriving in a singular box, as shown on the website and in the American release, they instead arrived in two separate boxes, each with the robot, their controller, and a small instruction sheet. What’s unique about this is set, in particular, is that unlike other Brits who already own these, I didn’t have to go to eBay and pay an insane import fee Due to popular demand, Hexbug has released Beta & Minotaur in the UK for a limited time. With Hexbug recently announcing the release of more BattleBots toys, it seems the perfect time to review the second set of “Rivals”: Beta & Minotaur. **This post is not endorsed, but does contain affiliate links.**
